Week 9: Touch-Ups

This week for Advance Production, I worked on touching up Shots 3, 6, and 12. For Shot 3, I added a few new poses for the eyes on David and shortened the timing of the first 5 keyframes to get a snappier change of expression. It took me a while to find what controllers were creating the second squint but I eventually located the keys on cheek controllers. Previously the poses consisted of surprise, neutral, and squint. The new poses I added was a glance up and down before the delayed squint. My hope is that with this approach, we have room in Post-Production to cut into a zoom-in on the eyes.

For Shot 6, I took the feedback I received and implemented the feedback I received on the existing poses. I added a change in the shoulder rotation of the recoil and changed the rotation of the neck towards the right to have more of a dynamic pose. The shot did get a little longer with these changes as some keyframes had to be moved around to allow for the animation to read better using slower timing in the recoil. Looking at the playblast now, there is room for improvement with the arm swing since they seem to pop before the anticipation pose. I'd like to also go back and lower the position of the cookie since it looks like its positioned a little too high up.

This week for shot 12, I worked on fixing the hand positions and animating the box. While working on the hands, I did ran into some issues with the extra wrist rotations and inconsistent elbow positioning. I fixed the wrist rotations using the euler filter and re-doing the rotations on some elbow keys. Last week, I didn't have the box in the scene. So I loaded the box in and keyed the animations for the box toss. It was a repeated process of adjusting the positioning of the box to keep the hand at the center of it and following the wrist rotation for the toss. The only additional work I can see that needs to be done is having the landing position fixed so he doesn't fall down like a frozen statue.

This week, I'll be asking my team for feedback before finalizing these poses and exporting the animation as an abc file to import into Unreal. Once that's completed, I want to work on gathering more royalty free sounds and effects for next weekly.
